While cinnamon & vanilla are two of the more “prestigious” Watkins products, I find that my wife and I are using Watkins Black Pepper pretty much on a daily basis. Of course many of the recipes call for black pepper, but as that little “extra” something to our rice, vegetables or Cous Cous, it does the trick. We have a “store brand” black pepper grinder that is now sitting idle because the difference in flavor is so noticeable. Why is Watkins Black Pepper different? Let me tell you.

First is the peppercorns. Watkins uses Lampong and Malabar peppercorns: They are the preferred for processing because they retain so much more flavor. Lampong is from Indonesia; and the Malabar variety comes from the coast of India. But the quality of the peppercorn is only part of what makes Watkins Black Pepper the “Gold Medal Winner for Highest Quality”. After choosing the peppercorns with the strongest flavor Watkins next carefully screens out stems and debris to ensure the purest pepper flavor. The final step is the true “secret”. Swirled Watkins Black Pepper Bread

1 16 oz. package  hot roll mix
3/4 tsp Watkins Basil
1/4 tsp Watkins Garlic Granules
1/4 tsp Watkins Onion Granules
2 tbsp butter, softened (or for less fat & calories “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter”)
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, finely-grated
1 tsp/5 mL Watkins Black Pepper
Melted butter
Prepare hot roll mix dough according to the package directions for bread. Add the basil, garlic granules & onion granules to dry mix. Let rest as directed for five minutes.

On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into an 18×9 -inch rectangle. Then, spread dough w/butter (or butter substitute) and sprinkle with cheese and pepper. Roll tightly, ala jelly-roll fashion, starting from a short side. Pinch the edges and ends to seal. Place in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan. Cover w/clean towel & let rise 15 to 20 minutes. Bake @ 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes or until loaf
sounds hollow when lightly tapped. Remove from pan & brush w/melted butter. Let cool on a wire rack.
Makes 1 loaf, 10 servings.

1 tsp Watkins Cinnamon
1/4 cup light brown sugar

Directions: Mix Watkins Cinnamon and light brown sugar thoroughly. Lightly butter your bread (i recommend “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter”) Sprinkle your Watkins Cinnamon mix on your “buttered” bread and toast. It’s love at first “bite”!

Watkins Recipe for Cinnamon Spice Cookies

Ingredients you’ll need:

1 tsp Watkins Purest Ground Cinnamon
2 cups of all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp Watkins Organic Nutmeg
1/2 tsp  salt
1 1/2 cups  sugar
12 tbsp butter (1 ½ sticks), softened (use “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter” for reduced fat & calories)
1/2 tsp Watkins Original Double-Strength Vanilla
1/4 cup  molasses
1 eggBaking

Baking Directions
Preheat oven to 350F. Whisk flour, baking soda, nutmeg, cinnamon,  & salt in a medium bowl. In a shallow bowl set aside 1/2 cup sugar.

Beat butter, remaining sugar, egg, vanilla, and molasses until well blended w/electric mixer. Combine with dry ingredients until dough forms. Roll dough into 1 inch balls and dip in 1/2 cup reserved sugar.

Arrange on a baking sheet, about 3-inches apart. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes.
Makes 3 dozen.

EZ Recipe

For those that don’t know, I LOVE to cook! Collecting recipes is a byproduct of this love. My favorite recipes are simple, quick & tasty. Until I used this EZ recipe though, i’ve never “baked” anything other than a casserole. Watkins has now made me a master baker using their mix and a simple recipe.    Since starting my part-time home based business (another simple recipe for success) with Watkins I’ve enjoyed cooking with the spices, using the air freshner, eating the dip mix, etc…you get the point. Well today I surprised my wife with a morning breakfast treat to go with our coffee.

I baked Watkins “Cinnamon Apple Spiced Bread”. It is fabulous if I do say so myself. The prep time is minimal (5-7 minutes) and the cook time is only 25 minutes. It’s such an easy recipe even a “guy” can do it! Here’s all you have to do:

• Mix 1 egg, 1/2 cup milk (I used 2%) 1/2 cup applesauce (I used natural/no sugar added) in a medium bowl.
• Add Watkins “Cinnamon Apple Spiced Bread” mix to the bowl & stir to mix.
• Let the mix sit for 1 minute.
• Melt 1/2 stick butter (I used “I can’t believe it’s not butter 4 Tbs) & stir into mix.
• Spray with Watkins Cooking Spray & pour in 8 X 8 or 9 X 9 pan & bake for 25 minutes.

A wonderful low fat treat that is a delight to eat.
